JAZZ DANCE
Jazz dance represents our popular culture that is forever changing. Today, Jazz dancing is influenced by pop music and can be seen in concerts and video clips for artists such as Janet Jackson, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and Britney Spears, and movies such as Fame, Flashdance and Step Up.
Jazz dance enhances flexibility, strength, movement and fitness. We recommend combining jazz with our ballet, contemporary, lyrical and hip-hop classes.
Jazz Technique Classes
A class designed to teach and perfect the basics of jazz dance whilst focusing on strength, stretch and technique. Class involves warm up, turns, kicks and jumps.
Open Jazz Classes
Open Jazz classes focus on jazz combinations, movement, and routines.
Dance Junction Performance Group
The Jazz style is used frequently in the Performance Teams performances.
Jazz and Jazz Technique Classes are mandatory if considering participation in Dance Junction’s performance group

TAP
Tap is an exciting form of dance that involves dancers wearing special shoes equipped with metal plates. Tap dancers use their feet like drums to create rhythmic patterns and timely beats. The term “tap dancing” is derived from the tapping sound produced when the small metal plates on the dancer’s shoes touch a hard floor or surface.
Open Tap Classes
Open Tap Classes consist of a combination of modern and old tap styles observed in theatre shows such as Tap Dogs, Singing in The Rain and 42nd Street.
Open tap classes will provide opportunity for students to work on combinations and routines.
Grade Tap – Glenn Wood Tap Syllabus
Grade Tap classes involve students learning the Glenn Wood Tap Syllabus. Students will work up the levels each year learning and working on barre work, centre work, corner work and routines. Grade Tap includes a yearly examination where students who pass the exam move to the next level. Dance Junction has a reputation for achieving outstanding tap exams results, with many students achieving 100% each year. Students who wish to do a GWT exam must be also enrolled in the open tap class.

BALLET
Classical ballet is based on formalised movements and positions of the arms, feet, and body designed to enable the dancer to move with the greatest possible agility, control, speed, lightness, and grace. Classical ballet perfectly compliments
our Jazz, contemporary and lyrical classes.
Exam Extension Open Ballet Class
Exam Extension Open Ballet Class consists of non-syllabus content designed to improve technique, lines, strength and flexibility to aid a student’s syllabus work. It is compulsory for all students sitting an RAD examination from Grade 2 to enrol in the Exam Extension Open Class.
Grade Ballet – RAD Ballet Classes
Based in the UK, the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is one of the most influential and prestigious dance education organisations in the world. Dance Junction students have maintained outstanding RAD ballet results and we look forward to introducing new dance students to this beautiful art form each year.
In the Structured RAD Grade Classes at Dance Junction, students may progress through the following grades:

Five Vocational Graded levels
Students may move from the Graded pathway to the Vocational Graded pathway at teacher discretion or once an exam has been passed, they may study both pathways simultaneously.

HIP HOP DANCE
Hip-hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. Constantly evolving, it is a free, funky and soulful expression of movement used by artists such as Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Nicki Minaj, Usher, Neyo, Flo Rida and Rihanna.

ACROBATICS
Acrobatics is a style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, its unique choreography, which seamlessly blends dance and acrobatics, and its use of acrobatics in a dance context. Acrobatics classes will focus on strengthening the core whilst teaching skills such as tumbling, flips and tricks.

CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet.
Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.

MUSICAL THEATRE
Musical Theatre is a form of dramatic production combining acting, singing,
and dancing to tell a story. Classes will cover repertoire from different musicals such as Matilda, Hair Spray and School of Rock.
Combining Musical Theatre and Singing
If your child loves everything theatrical or is considering auditioning for their school musical, we highly recommend attending both our Musical Theatre and Singing classes for a more thorough education in this genre. Private singing lessons are also available in our dedicated vocal studio.

LYRICAL DANCE
Lyrical combines the techniques of Jazz and Classical Ballet. Lyrical is a slower and more expressive form of Jazz often to ballad music. Dancers gain fluidity of movement, poise, strength and control.

SINGING & VOCAL
Dance Junction offers singing and vocal classes for all age groups, from beginners to advanced vocalists. Focusing on pop/contemporary music and the musical theatre genre, our singing classes allow students to learn good vocal technique, microphone technique and performance skills.
Our vocal classes are structured to build student self-confidence in singing and in public speaking. Our experienced teachers focus on creating a fun and supportive environment to allow your child to grow in their love for music.
Dedicated Singing Studio and Equipment
Our singing studio is a dedicated room at Dance Junction, with professional microphones and sound equipment.
Singing Performances
Singing students at Dance Junction can perform at the end of year concert and selected public performances.

PRIVATE LESSONS
Private Dance Lessons
Private lessons are available in all genres. Private lessons are highly recommended for any child wanting to perform solos at eisteddfods or at Dance Junction events.
For more information or to organize a private lesson please speak to our Studio manager.
Please note that all costumes and entry fees for solo competitions are at the parents’ expense. All private lessons must be paid for prior to or on the day of the lesson.
Private Singing Lessons
Does your child love to sing? Our private singing lessons are a 30-minute, one-on-one lesson dedicated to improving vocal technique and performance skills. Private lessons are highly recommended for any child wanting to perform vocal solos at Eisteddfods or at Dance Junction events.
Private singing lessons are currently available in our dedicated vocal studio. If you require a time outside the current schedule, please let the studio manager know.
